They pick the cherries from all the leading vegan brands and offer excellent, top quality choices.
The selection is limited and could be expanded further to offer more designs in each category.
A very good curation of vegan footwear, showcasing excellent items from the top designers. Time = saved.
The Compassionate Closet a vegan store launched in Denver, Colorado in 2014 by Stephanie Boyd. They put a strong emphasis not only on being cruelty-free, but also on protecting the environment, using recycled materials and packaging and reducing the impact of their products.
In addition to vegan footwear, They also sell accessories including bags, belts and wallets and even jewelry. The Compassionate Closet donates 5% of all sales to animal rights organizations and also donate products for various fundraising events.
Before I dive into the collection, let’s talk a bit about display. The Compassionate Closet’s way of presenting items is not ideal; There are no categories, like boots, sneakers etc., so you can only sort according to brand. This makes finding specific types of shoes a bit time consuming. Now onward to the shoes themselves…
The Compassionate Closet offers an assortment of designs from various vegan brands and designers. They pick the best items from each brand’s collection, and even though items are curated from multiple brands, there’s something for everyone in the collection.
There are some classic and beautiful dress shoes from brands like Wills, Novacas and Good Guys. There are also a number of some of the best vegan boots around, with items from Ahimsa, Wills and Jambu who offer unique designs that not all stores carry.
The Compassionate Closet offers some funky and special wedge shoes and sandals in wild colors and patterns – for adventurous shoppers who don’t settle for the usual footwear trends. If you like original designs that are a bit further away from mainstream then The Compassionate Closet is a good place for you to go to find great shoes.
If you’re looking for sneakers or sports shoes then you probably won’t find what you’re looking for. The Compassionate closet doesn’t focus on these types of shoes, although they do offer a couple of choices, including some running shoes.
There’s a ton of apparel on The Compassionate Closet, including shirts, socks, sweatshirts, tank tops and even pajamas! They also offer a lot of very cool bags that come in a bunch of great designs, like animated piglets, birds, lions, puppies and others.
There are also wallets in a wide style of designs, with nice colorful patterns, great looking handbags and backpacks. The Compassionate closet really offer some of the best collections of accessories.
You can also find nice belts, both formal and casual, as well as jewelry. Definitely check out their necklaces, earrings and bracelets. They offer vegan-themed jewelry as well.
The selection of men’s vegan shoes is a bit small, but still packs all the right designs and brands. There are quite a few boots to choose from, ranging from Dr. Martens to dock boots and even sneaker boots. They vary in color and design very much so lots of good choices there.
There are also very nice and varied dress shoes from brands like Wills, Novacas and others. The Compassionate Closet doesn’t try to offer every dress shoe they can get their hands on, and instead choose to showcase only the cherries on the top of each brand’s collection. They offer various archetypes of dress shoes so their store is varied enough not to repeat itself, but also provides enough choice for most tastes.
While they don’t offer sports hoes per se, you can find outdoors shoes, like Wicked Hemp’s hiking shoes. They also have some nice sneakers from MVMT and loafers by Good Guys. All in all the selection is limited, but is comprised of very good options.
You’ll find a very nice selection of belts, mostly elegant designs, for every purpose: wide and narrow width, small and larger buckles, and matte or glossy finish.
If you’re looking for bags or wallets, you can find some very hi-tech looking backpacks or messenger bags by ecowings. You can also get excellent wallets by The Vegan Collection or Wills, including a thin card holder – a great product and in my opinion a better option than a full wallet.
Sorry kids (do kids even read reviews?), The Compassionate closet doesn’t offer anything for your age, yet.

The Compassionate Closet have a 30-day return policy, meaning you can contact customer support either through your account or via email or telephone and request returns or exchanges. Just make sure the shoes are in mint condition (they emphasis no pet hair or strong smells like oil, perfume etc.)
While The Compassionate Closet doesn’t offer a huge selection of shoes, their “thing” is to curate the top items from the leading vegan brands, in order to offer customers the best of the best. You won’t have to go through endless pages of different types of dress shoes, casual shoes, boots and others. Instead, you’ll see selected shoes in each category, but those items are excellent and cover the whole gamut of vegan footwear.
Their selection of bags and wallets is better and they offer a wide range of items for both men and women, as well as unique jewelry.
All in all, The Compassionate closet is a good place to start your quest for the holy shoe, because it’s likely they have what you’re looking for and will save you time browsing endless websites and pages filled with shoes (unless that’s your guilty pleasure of course).
